O'Shot Q&A

What is the O-Shot®?

The O-Shot® is a procedure using Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) for women who are suffering from decreased vaginal sensation, decreased or inability to achieve orgasm, pain during intercourse, or leakage of urine.

Dr. Cagnes extracts the PRP from the patient’s own blood and injects it into the clitoris and the anterior vaginal wall to add volume, and increase sensation and sensitivity in the treated area. She can also use the O-Shot to help with urinary incontinence. A numbing cream and injectable anesthetic make the procedure virtually pain free. Results can be noticed within just weeks and can last months or even years.

What should I expect during my procedure?

Dr. Cagnes will perform a complete review of the patient’s medical history and answer any questions or concerns that may arise. Afterwards, she’ll draw the blood and prepare it for injection while the treatment area is numbed with a topical cream and an injectable anesthetic. The O-Shot will be injected into specific areas of the vagina and clitoris using a small needle. The process takes about 60 minutes to complete.

Although there may be mild pinching, most women feel very comfortable during the entire procedure. The O-Shot procedure is extremely safe and there are no side effects or downtime. On occasion, some women feel a brief period of minor soreness and a few drops of blood can be visible at the injection site. Patients can return to work or physical activity, including sex on the same day.

How many O-Shots will I need?

Some women choose to have more than one O-Shot procedure to provide additional support to the resolution of their problems. Dr. Cagnes can perform a second O-Shot six to eight weeks after the initial shot.

Generally, the O-Shot will last one to two years or longer for some women. However, the average woman will usually need to repeat the procedure every 18 months. Some women will experience an immediate increase in sexual desire. More often, it takes about three months to fully enjoy the final results.*

*Individual results may vary.

Can I have the procedure done if I am pregnant or menstruating?

Women who are pregnant or lactating can’t be approved for the O-Shot procedure. However, the O-Shot can be safely administered at any other time during a woman's cycle.
